Things Keeping Us Going: The Loons

It is officially summer in the northern hemisphere. Summer in New England is a short season that I cram full of outdoor concerts, and barbecues, and hikes, and trips to the ocean, and paddles on the river, and campfires, and gardens, and books read in the hammock…

There is nothing that captures the magic of a New England summer quite the way the haunting call of the loons at dusk does. This weekend, I got to spend time with some of my husband’s clan on a lake halfway to Canada up Downeast Maine, where the call of the loons at sunset brought us all to a standstill for a few, lovely moments.
